AAn Ideal for Language Program Development：The Case of Business Chinese

Abstract　Inspired by studies of Language for Specific Purposes（LSP）and achievements in other commonly taught LSP programs,this article illustrates the key elements of language program development in a globalized economy and digital era.Based on the review of research and practices of Chinese for Special Purposes in the U.S.higher education institutions,this paper highlights the main phases essential to establishing a successful business Chinese program.It demonstrates that business Chinese has expanded to Specific Purposes more generally,aiming at training students to achieve professional competency in various disciplines.The future growth of this field will also be discussed.
