第28章 有科名心 无济世才

There are some who only have the heart to gain scholarship but no ability to govern and serve.

存科名之心者，未必有琴书之乐；讲性命之学者，不可无经济之才。

今文解译

一心想博取科举功名的人，未必能体会琴棋书画的兴趣。

讲求生命形而上境界的学者，不能没有经世济民的才能。

English Translation

He who is absorbed in scholarly honor and official rank may not appreciate his interest in scholars'four fancies*.

He who seeks to transcend the earthly world should never be deprived of the ability to serve the country and the people.

*Scholars'four fancies are referred to lute-playing,chess,calligraphy and painting.
