Preface

2014 is the 60th anniversary of the Elementary School Attached to Renmin University of China. For decades, the school has been adhering to the principle of“creating a suitable educational environment for children's development” and paving way for teachers and students' diversified development.

General Secretary Xi said:“We should sow dreams for teenagers and light those dreams. Let more and more teenagers be brave to have their dreams, capable of pursuing their dreams and diligent to realize their dreams.” In order to cultivate China Dream of great rejuvenation for the Chinese nation deep in children's heart, we specially choose National Museum of China where General Secretary Xi delineated China Dream to hold this exhibition—“China Dream Teenager Dream—Celebrate the International Children's Day, Teachers and Students Art Exhibition of the Elementary School Affiliated to Renmin University of China”.

More than 5000 teachers and students spent three years on creating nearly 6000 art works, 3160 of which are displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition is divided into four parts: source of dream, heart of dream, vision of dream, and soul of dream. Those works express their love for a better life as well as the pursuit of happiness and dreams and successfully spread the concept of environmental protection and artistic innovation.

The Elementary School Affiliated to Renmin University of China is the source of dreams. Our diversified education strives to make every child distinct. That is the reason why we also collected some inspiring works from migrant laborers' children, former farmers' children and transient students.

The students held a press conference on their own in the press hall of National Museum of China on May 27, and it proved to be very successful. We believe that as long as we provide a stage or platform for children, they will create a bright future. More than 600 students displayed their artworks on the opening ceremony, where leaders at different levels were present, including Jin Nuo, the Party Secretary of Renmin University of China, Huang Zhenchun, the Party Secretary of National Museum of China, Ma Junjie, the deputy Party Secretary of Renmin University of China, Wang Dinghua, the Director of the first department of fundamental education in Ministry of Education, Luo Jie, a committee member of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Zhang Yanxiang, the deputy Director of Haidian Education Commission, GuoJingyu, the Executive Director of ESC of Haidian NPC Standing Committee and Wu Changjiang, the Secretary of Artists Association of China.

This was the first time for National Museum of China to hold an art exhibition for elementary students. The number of people who visited the exhibition from May 27 to June 15 exceeded 100000, including leaders as Li Weihong, the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education, Chen Yulu, the principal of Renmin University of China, Zhang Jianming, the Deputy Executive Party Secretary of Renmin University of China, Xian Lianping, the Director of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Qiao Jian, the Deputy Secretary of Education and Labor Commission. We were extremely excited on June 13 when Liu Yandong, the Vice-premier of the State Council, came to the exhibition. She was intrigued to see the children's artworks and highly valued their achievement. After the exhibition, National Museum of China selected over 100 works, and stored them as national treasures, All of these encouraged the teachers and students greatly.

From August 14 to 19, 95 teachers and students were invited to Russia. They displayed 199 works in Tretyakov Gallery, which was one of the top five art galleries around the globe, and received favorable comments from local audience. The students practiced calligraphy on the spot and sold them by auction. They not only spread and carry forward Chinese traditional culture, but also build a dream bridge for Chinese and Russian teenagers to share the beauty in their art creation.

I am so grateful to those leaders at different levels and all the students' parents for their continuous support and encouragement. Please allow me to express mydeepest gratitude on behalf of the teachers and students. I'd like to thank Tian Hong Group for their support and National Museum of China for their setting up a stage for children to realize their dreams. The famous calligrapher, LvZhangshen, who is the Director of National Museum of China, accepted the children's invitation with delight. He wrote the heading“China Dream Teenager Dream” for the exhibition, showing his love for children .

I was extremely excited when I wrote this preface. Every picture on the exhibition is still vividly presented in my mind. I am more than grateful for the hard work of every teacher at Rainbow Art Center in our school, and for the persevering hard work of those lovely, marvelous and talented students. In order to inspire and realize the art dreams of teachers and students, the“Colorful Gallery of the Elementary School Affiliated to Renmin University of China” inaugurated on November 15. Meanwhile, we compiled the art works on the exhibition in National Museum of China and issued this volume. Wish these wonderful and memorable moments will stay on everyone's heart in this school.
